Finally, when I took the battery out before inserting the USB cable and then starting the update process, magically, it worked. Run the update again, but this time, the only thing I did differently was plug in the remote on the screen whic said: "Done updating Extender, remote to be updated next" rather then the next one. Anyhew, since I had paid over 0 for this machine, in despiration I played around with taking the battery out mid way though the updating process etc.
